Word about the Adelphi Cheerleading Team has spread quickly, especially on Facebook and Instagram. From January 15–17, 2016, the team competed at Walt Disney World in the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship. The appearance was the culmination of years of hard work by the 18-member club team, which is led by Alex Campbell.

Attending the competition has been a long-sought goal for the team, but, until this year, the expense put the dream out of reach. This year, though, the team successfully fundraised for the cause and pooled together their own money to help cover the travel costs.

With the funds in hand, the cheerleaders spent six hours a day in the weeks leading up to the competition practicing their moves. The tremendous effort ultimately yielded a 12th place finish—out of 17—and the maximum number of points for the crowd tape they submitted.

Team member Samantha Garthright said it was a thrill “walking out of the castle at Disney World for the first time and taking the nationals mat after trying to make it there for years.”
