University Recognized Among Nation’s Best Colleges and Exceeds Academic Reputation

At a time when higher education is under intense scrutiny to demonstrate its relevance and value, Adelphi University has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its first-ever list of colleges in its National Universities ranking category that are overperforming in ensuring student success. In a report issued this week, Adelphi was ranked as a “Top 15 Overperformer” in undergraduate academic reputation.

“For years, the rankings in U.S. News that receive the most attention have been a bit of a popularity contest where university reputations are made, to a significant degree, because of what other college administrators think of their competition,” said Dr. Gayle D. Insler, Adelphi’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “These impressions can be influenced by a variety of factors, including elaborate direct mail pieces or athletic success, such as making it to the Final Four or a bowl game, and not necessarily by what students gain attending a given school. This new designation is a reflection of the value a student obtains by enrolling at Adelphi. Students and their families seek out our University for our small class sizes, engaged students, great teaching, and strong program outcomes at an affordable price. The recognition by U.S. News is a clear indication that Adelphi is transforming lives and helping students to be educated citizens and workforce ready.”

Adelphi University is at the forefront of higher education with nationally recognized programs to best meet the needs of both current and future students. The University has also made student success—as defined by retention and graduation for all our students—an institutional priority. Freshman enrollment and total undergraduate enrollment are at new highs. Graduation rates, already the highest in our region, continue to rise. To achieve this, Adelphi has expanded internship programs, supported faculty mentored student research, enhanced student services, and kept tuition increases well below the national average. Adelphi students not only graduate, but also gain meaningful employment, often through internships and field placements, and continue on to graduate school in large numbers. Adelphi’s Center for Career Development has initiated many innovative programs, such as the Community Fellows Program, to prepare students for careers and enrich students’ overall experience.

Additionally, the University has been recognized by The Fiske Guide to Colleges as one of the nation’s “best and most interesting” institutions and for seven consecutive years has been listed among a select number of “Best Buys” in higher education.
