I have been fortunate to be a part of this amazing team since 2009. My work involves the development and implementation of community health education programs that aim to decrease health disparities amongst women living in underserved areas. As the Outreach program Supervisor, I lead the Sisters United in Health initiative which, each year, provides thousands of medically underserved women with the education and resources necessary for breast cancer risk reduction and early detection. My mission is to empower and assist women to overcome individual and social barriers to access healthcare, and improve their health outcomes. I work closely with community-based organizations and leaders to reach out to populations in need across Long Island and participate in advocacy efforts at the State and National levels.

I came with my family to the United States from Bogotá, Colombia when I was 16 years old. My passion for health behavior and health promotion led me to earn a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stony Brook University and a Master’s degree in Health Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College. As an immigrant woman, I feel extremely honored and thankful that my job allows me to make a difference in the lives of other women, particularly those who are vulnerable, new to the country, or lack the social support and resources they need to lead healthy lives.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my dog. I’m also a volunteer board member for Westbury Arts, my local arts council. I like practicing meditation and cooking vegan dishes which may or may not turn out edible.
