We have implemented numerous updates to improve the resources available to you this year.

Welcome to the start of a new semester. The Office of Information Technology is continually working to enhance technology services for the Adelphi community and meet the ever-growing technology needs of our campus. We are excited to announce that we have implemented numerous updates over the summer in order to improve the resources available to you this year.

Windows 7 and Active Directory Migration

All computers on campus have been updated with Windows 7 Operating System and Microsoft’s Active Directory networking service. Technology classrooms will no longer require a login. Computer labs such as Swirbul’s Information Commons still require a login and offer access to faculty/staff H: drives. Both classrooms and labs will not have access to universal shared storage locations; please back up your files using a flash drive or your Adelphi Google Drive.

The first time you use an updated computer, you may be asked to change your password if you have not done so in the past two months.

Faculty/students with usernames longer than 20 characters will need to add “@adelphi.internal” to the end of their username in order to log in at computer labs.

Moodle 2.4

The new upgrade of Moodle is now optimized for viewing on mobile devices, including tablets. Moodle also now features a Library Block, with quick links to library help, your library record, and course reference librarians. Additionally, faculty now have an extended range of features, including new assignment grading methods (group assignments, blind marking, and offline marking) and submission date extensions. They can also upload files by dragging-and-dropping and rename files from the front page. See fcpe.adelphi.edu/moodle for more information.

Google Voice

Residential students no longer need to bring a landline phone in order to use the phone services in the dorms; now, all they need is a computer. With Google Voice, students are able to take advantage of all the services of a traditional phone line as well as many additional features such as voicemail, voicemail transcription, email integration, custom greetings, call screening, conference calling, and more. Go to it.adelphi.edu/catalog/phone/ to learn how to use Google Voice.

Innovate PC Discounts

The Office of Information Technology now offers a 20% discount for technology purchases through InnovatePC, a seller of used and refurbished equipment 2-5 years old. Go to portal.adelphi.edu/group/ecampus/special-offers for more information on this and other Adelphi discounts with Apple, Dell and VarsityBuys.

Charging Stations

As part of a joint initiative by the Center for Student Involvement and IT, 12 charging stations for phones, tablets, and laptops are now available for use on the Garden City campus. Please note, however, that Adelphi is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Do not leave your devices unattended at stations.

The charging stations are located in the following areas:

  • Center for Recreation and Sports Lobby
  • Center for Recreation and Sports Gym
  • Hagedorn Hall: 1st Floor Lobby
  • Performing Arts Center Lobby
  • Post Hall Dining Hall
  • Swirbul Library Lobby (Sitting Area)
  • Swirbul Library Info Commons
  • UC Commuter Lounge

  • UC Underground Cafe
  • Hy Weinberg Center, 2nd Floor Student Lounge

Kiosks

Adelphi IT has started the upgrade of all public kiosks on the Garden City campus with Samsung Chromeboxes. The new kiosks are much faster, feature multimedia capability, and provide rapid access to email, the CLASS system, and other online resources. ALICAT catalog stations in  Swirbul Library will also be upgraded to Chromeboxes.

Multimedia and Network Upgrades

A number of classrooms, meeting spaces in the University Center and rooms in Alumni House have been upgraded with new multimedia equipment. Digital signs featuring upcoming events and important announcements have been added to each residence hall lobby. Additionally, the Science Building network, including the network connection in computer labs, has been upgraded for much faster connection to the Internet.

Television Services

Adelphi’s campus TV services now feature digital and HD channels, including HBO.
