Frank_TuranoThe staff of the Office of Information Technology would like to congratulate

Frank Turano

Student Worker of the Month for April 2014

Frank began working with Adelphi IT since Fall 2013 and is a a valuable part of the Webteam, particularly on the University’s responsive mobile design project, in addition to assisting with website content updates, design and production.

Frank is graduating magna cum laude in May, with a B.A. in  Communications, concentration in Moving Image Arts. In November 2013, he won the Center for Student Involvement’s Student Worker of the Month award. for his work on developing a digital student portfolio template.

Here are some of the comments we received from IT staff members and other student workers who nominated Frank:

“Frank’s accomplishments at Adelphi are numerous but his most significant endeavors occurred within his senior year.  Working alongside Adelphi’s Web Team, he was instrumental to the success of their responsive design initiative.  This project provides easy access for mobile end users to navigate Adelphi’s web pages.  Frank’s skillset, innovation and energy brought this project to fruition.   In addition, his ideas and product design for student e-portfolios for the Communications students is genius – clearly demonstrating his willingness to go “above and beyond.”

“Frank is a driven, motivated, eager, and talented individual who has had a incredible impact on our department in the short time he has been with us. His work, along with former student worker Miguel Molina, to convert the website for this summer’s high-profile NYSACAC conference to a mobile-responsive format set the bar for us to convert the whole of Adelphi’s site in the same manner, and provided both a valuable service to potential conference attendees and a yardstick for our own work moving forward. We could not have made our recent progress in responsive design if he had not volunteered for and completed the NYSACAC project with such strong results.”

“Frank is a joy to work with and mentor – he is eager to learn and to help, works well in collaboration with others, and presents himself and his work with clear communication, good nature and a sense of humor. He has recently acquired a permanent position with CNN to begin after graduation, and though we will be sorry to lose him we are also incredibly proud of all his accomplishments and anticipate big things from him in the future!”

“We’ve been so fortunate to have Frank as part of the Web Team this year and we’re sorry to be losing him. Frank’s talents have landed him a job at a major network after graduation, and I can’t say I’m surprised. He spearheaded our responsive design project and has been invaluable in troubleshooting many other web issues. All that while working in at least two other AU departments at the same time.”

“Frank is a great, hard working student. If he encounters a problem, he goes out of his way to figure out the best way to solve it. I was very impressed with his work on the responsive project.”

“Frank has played an integral role in the conception, design and implementation of the responsive nysacac.adelphi.edu domain. He will soon be working with Vector Media to apply responsive design to the rest of our WordPress domains. He is extremely eager to learn, and always displays a positive attitude.”

Please note: We will not be accepting nominations for May 2014. However, please feel free to nominate any non-graduating students for the next nomination period.
