Adelphi's location and its proximity to New York City were huge draws when she was exploring colleges.

One of my favorite trips to Manhattan during the school year was actually part of a class assignment. For my Modern Condition course, our professor recommended we visit the Museum of Modern Art to further understand and appreciate the topics we were discussing in class. A group of classmates and I spent a Saturday examining the galleries and sharing our opinions. We also saved enough time to explore Times Square on our own.

On another occasion, a friend and I traveled to New York City early for student rush tickets to a Broadway show. We got front-row seats for Rock of Ages for $35 each! I had never seen a real Broadway show before. Being able to navigate my way through the city on our own made the experience even more memorable.

Adelphi’s location was a huge draw for me when I was exploring colleges. I’m thrilled to find all the exciting opportunities Manhattan has to offer. But I also feel more comfortable knowing that I have a more relaxing environment to return to at the end of the day. I like how the Adelphi campus is not overwhelmingly large, but it’s spacious enough that students do not feel closed in by buildings everywhere. Another major deciding factor for me was Adelphi’s wide variety of extracurricular activities and clubs. Since I was an out-of-state student, I was terrified that I would be left alone on campus while my classmates could return home or travel to their favorite Long Island locations.

However, finding an event to participate in through Adelphi was never an issue on any given day. I’m very involved in community service, and the university always sponsors trips to various spots around the area in need of assistance. And various campus clubs and organizations hold different events, ranging from bake sales to masquerade balls. In short, I find it extremely difficult to be bored on campus.
