I am a clinical social worker and have been the counseling coordinator at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program since 1990. I develop and facilitate support groups for women, men, couples and family members and speak to hotline callers who want telephone or office counseling for emotional support or help finding resources and coping strategies. I also consult with health care professionals in setting up group programs, speak to community groups about breast cancer issues, and work extensively with social work interns.

I’ve met incredible survivors who have taught me about strength and resilience under adversity. In a support group, members feel understood and help each other find strength. They often stay in touch years after their group ends. It is most rewarding to see people who have called our hotline in need, get help from our support groups and then volunteer when they feel ready to help others.
