Twin Brothers’ Career Paths Are Not Identical

Anthony Moneta ’13, M.B.A., and Nicholas Moneta ‘13—twin brothers from Franklin Square, New York—had the unique experience of attending Adelphi University together. But their career paths couldn’t have been more different. Anthony graduated with a B.B.A. in Accounting, and later earned an M.B.A. Nicholas graduated magna cum laude with a B.F.A. in Theatre, received the Alexander Barnes Senior Award and will pursue a law degree at Hofstra University this fall.

Studying acting at Adelphi helped Nicholas hone his creativity and develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, which will be crucial in becoming a good lawyer. In his acting work, he tackled projects centered on topics such as capital punishment, abortion, civil and constitutional rights, war and politics.

Soon after he graduated, Nicholas began working as a paralegal for Moulinos & Associates LLC in Manhattan, assisting three attorneys with transactional and litigation work. He credits Adelphi and the theatre program faculty for supporting him and always reminding him to be well educated as an actor, and as a person. If not for the continued support of his classmates and faculty, Nicholas would not be where he is today.

Anthony also recognized the importance of being a well-rounded student by maintaining his grades, becoming involved on campus and networking with business professionals. In his senior year, he became president of the Accounting Society, which allowed him to exercise leadership, an experience he will carry with him throughout his career.

Anthony was an accounting tutor and served as a graduate assistant to Grace Conway, associate professor of accounting, finance and economics, and to Brian Rothschild, A.B.D., Ph.D., assistant dean of the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business. Being a grad assistant taught Anthony the value of effective communication and time management, which translated well to his work tutoring other accounting students. He made strong connections with the Center for Career Development, participating in Mock Interview Night twice, attending the Annual Job and Internship Expo and utilizing the On-Campus Recruitment program. As president of the Accounting Society, Anthony worked closely with Elaine Boylan, senior associate director with the Center for Career Development, who runs the successful On-Campus Recruitment program for Adelphi’s accounting students.

The On-Campus Recruitment program gave Anthony an opportunity to interview with leading accounting firms on campus, at least for the first round of interviews. He was offered an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Summer 2013, which ultimately led to a full-time offer. This fall, he will be an audit associate in PwC’s private company service practice in Melville, New York.

The brothers cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting involved at Adelphi. They feel that students should make time to meet new people and learn new things every day to get the full college experience, offering this sage advice: “Adelphi has so much to offer in every discipline. Take opportunities to learn about the practicalities of your area of study and the implications it will have for you postgraduation. By doing this, you will have a much smoother path to making a difference and finding success.”
