Adelphi University President Christine M. Riordan, Ph.D., was named a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction at the 2017 Ceremony on May 9 at the Legislative Office Building in Albany.

This honor pays tribute to individuals of remarkable character who have shown initiative and commitment in constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, as well as acting as role models to all women in their community.

Since becoming the first woman president of Adelphi, Dr. Riordan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and has been a true advocate for women’s issues. The Senate notes that she launched a remarkable strategy that brought in the largest and most diverse freshman class in Adelphi history, has published over 60 academic and business press articles, and is a frequent speaker on leadership and overcoming challenges, including her TEDx talk, “Dare to Be Extraordinary”.
