Congressman Steve Israel will deliver a lecture on the “Next Generation Energy Security Initiative,” as part of the Adelphi University President’s Series on Critical Issues on Monday, April 30, 2007, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM, in Adelphi’s Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, N.Y. The lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and reservations are required by Monday, April 23, 2007.

Congressman Israel represents New York’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes the Long Island towns of Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown, and Oyster Bay. He is the co-chair and founder of the House Center Aisle Caucus which aims to establish respectful dialogue between Democrats and Republicans on contentious issues. Known as a reputed legislative leader, he serves on the House Appropriations Committee, one of the most powerful committees in Congress. He previously served on the House Armed Services Committee and Financial Services Committee, among many others.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Energy and Water, Congressman Israel is leading Congress in funding renewable and advanced technology initiatives to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. He has argued that every military challenge we face now and in the near future is impacted by our vulnerability to foreign oil. His “Next Generation Energy Security Initiative” looks toward energy independence with federal commitment to catalyze the private sector to research, develop, and produce clean energy technologies.

While serving in the House, Congressman Israel has helped pass the bipartisan Terrorism Risk Insurance Act to ensure the availability of insurance in a post 9-11 world. In addition, secure more than $100 million for Long Island businesses.

He lives in Dix Hills with his wife, Suffolk County Family Court Judge Marlene Budd, and his two daughters.
