Chuck D. ‘ 84, ’13 (Hon.), whose song, “Fight the Power,” was featured at the 2016 Academy Awards

For the second year in a row, no African American actor was nominated for an Oscar, and at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 28, 2016, the Academy did its best to address—maybe even apologize for—the omission. To hit the point home, “Fight the Power,” the politically charged rap ballad released by the hip hop group Public Enemy 1989 played throughout the evening.

In a tweet, Public Enemy founder and Adelphi alumnus Chuck D ’84, ’13 (Hon.) wrote, “The point of the song is a call to making change eventually, not just applauding the thought.”
