Father. U.S. Army veteran. Second-year emergency management graduate student. Lesley Welsh certainly has many titles. And each has contributed to the wealth of experience he has brought to Adelphi.

During his 22-year career as a CBRN officer, he received more than 15 years of training developing disaster preparedness, emergency response and continuity of operations (COOP) plans and programs, which were critical in helping to ensure the survivability and continued operations of military organizations. He was also deployed numerous times in support of the Army’s campaigns, including combat, disaster support and humanitarian relief missions. In addition, he trained, assessed and advised hundreds of United States and foreign military organizations, encompassing thousands of people who focus on COOP in all-hazards environments.

Recently retired as a lieutenant colonel with numerous awards, Mr. Welsh chose Adelphi’s M.S. in Emergency Management program to establish himself in one of the fastest growing fields and to continue his extensive career in emergency preparedness.

Mr. Welsh, who has an 8-year-old son, Jonathan, a 20-year-old daughter, Mackenzie, and a 23-year-old son, Stede, is affiliated with the Association of Contingency Planners, the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and the American Red Cross. He is also pursuing certifications as a Disaster Recovery Institute International Certified Business Continuity Planner, an IAEM Certified Emergency Manager and is enrolled in numerous Federal Emergency Management Agency independent study courses. Mr. Welsh volunteered at this year’s FEMA Emergency Management Institute Conference and presented one of his graduate-level research papers.
