Statement on the Value of an Adelphi Education

Student and parents,

I am personally sending a note to all of our accepted students to reaffirm that affordability is top of mind at Adelphi University. We are committed to making an investment in Adelphi pay off for you and your family, and we want you to feel informed and knowledgeable about financing your degree. We believe that our mission—to transform each student’s life through our
personalized approach—makes an Adelphi education well worth the cost.

Payscale has rated Adelphi graduates in the top third in the nation for salaries within one year of graduation. And 92 percent of our graduates are either working, or in graduate school, within that same time period. We are deeply rooted in our relentless dedication to your success, providing you with small classes, access to passionate professors, mentoring and the high-impact learning opportunities needed for your career success.

It is not surprising that Adelphi has been named a Best Buy by the Fiske Guide to Colleges for 11 straight years—one of only 26 private institutions nationwide recognized for our affordability and academic strength.

Adelphi graduates are working in every industry, all over New York and the nation, and many have called me personally to help mentor graduates and offer internships and careers. This is the kind of personal attention that has helped Adelphi’s students achieve their personal and professional goals.

Recent developments from New York state introduce a program offering New York residents “free tuition,” while still requiring students to pay room, board and fees, at SUNY and CUNY institutions.

The legislative bill has an extensive list of fine-print details. So far, these appear to include:

  • You must maintain a minimum GPA—or you will lose your grant.
  • You must complete 30 credits per year—or you will lose your grant.
  • You must live and work in New York state after graduation for as many years as you receive your grant—if not, you’ll be required to repay your grant. In essence, your grant becomes a loan.

And if the funding runs short, freshman students may be denied the free tuition grant altogether. A state-run lottery will decide who receives the grant, forcing many eligible families to be turned away.

We welcome conversations and and any questions that you may have. Please be assured that all of our students and their families have access to top-notch financial counseling and resources. Call us anytime at 1.800.ADELPHI, email us at or just ask us in person at our next Accepted Student Day on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

I believe an investment in an Adelphi education comes with a tremendous return. A truly personalized, transformative student experience awaits you. I hope to welcome you to campus this fall.

All the best,

Kristen E. Capezza
