Students Determined to Expand Their Learning Beyond U.S. Borders

Studying abroad has long been seen as a benign enrichment for college students. But the recent spate of global threats and attacks has added a new level of risk to the endeavor. In the New York Post article, “Students Aren’t Letting Terrorism Stop Them From Studying Abroad,” Erika Prafder addressed the determination of students to expand their learning beyond U.S. borders despite the threat of violence.

Shannon Harrison, director of the Center for International Education at Adelphi University, noted that “people are more cautious, but not enough to drastically affect our numbers.”  

According to Professor Brian Rose, “who leads Adelphi’s annual short-term study abroad program in London, “We can’t be inhibited by this demented fear or give into it. We have to face it, and not let it stop our contact with the rest of the world.”
