As the semester comes to a close, we want to bring you a few important announcements and updates on some technology projects that are completed, in progress or coming soon.

We hope you’re all enjoying the long-awaited warm weather and are looking forward to a great summer. As the semester comes to a close, we here in IT want to bring you a few important announcements and give you updates on some of the projects we’re working on.

Important Announcements

erecycle greeneRecycle Opportunities

All members of the Adelphi community are welcome to bring old and unwanted electronic equipment—and drop them off for free, environmentally conscious recycling on Thursday, May 17, and at various locations throughout the week from May 11-16. Learn more about these opportunities.

If you have Adelphi-owned electronics that need to be recycled, please submit a request for assistance.

Swirbul Library StudyingLibrary Hours During Finals

Finals are quickly approaching, and with its extended hours, Swirbul Library is a great place to study and get any last minute work done. The library is currently open late, until midnight on weekdays, and will begin 24 hour operations on Sunday, May 13 which will be in effect until Wednesday, May 16. Good luck as you take on your final assignments of the semester!

Prepare for Your Time Away

If you will be away from the office for an extended period, we recommend that you back up files onto your Adelphi Google Drive and H: drive. Turn off your computer, printers, monitors, scanners and other electronic equipment. If you will not be checking your University email account regularly, we encourage you to set up a vacation autoresponder message on your Gmail and to change your voicemail message.

International TravelInternational Travel Cyber Safety Tips

If you plan on doing any travel over the break, make sure to take additional cybersecurity measures. Many of the infected devices the Help Desk see come from people who have been out of the country. Best practices for international travelers:

  • Install virus protection on your device
  • Download the latest patches and updates
  • Back up your data in multiple places: USB, external hard drive and/or cloud storage

Faculty Lab Software Requests

If you have not done so already, please submit your lab software requests by Friday, May 18, 2018. Requests received after the above date may see delays in deployment.

New eCampus – Accessing the Intranet

When we redesigned eCampus in March, we integrated intranet content with the main site. In order to make that content more accessible, we’ve added an “Intranet” box within the list of services on eCampus, seen below, marked with a red lock icon.

You can simply type in “Intranet” in the search box on eCampus and click on the service to be taken to our complete listing of Intranet sites.

Coming over the Summer

Website RedesignWebsite Redesign

Last summer, the website got a refresh when the University underwent a rebranding. This summer, we’re following up with a new, modern, innovative redesign of our site that pushes boundaries and advances the University in its goal to support Momentum, the strategic plan. Early feedback on previews have been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re working with a wide range of departments on campus to ensure that the site has all the information you need when this phased change begins this summer.

Google Drive File StreamGoogle File Stream Rollout

Google recently launched Drive File Stream, a new desktop application where you can easily access all of your files, even those located in team drives. We’re going to be rolling out File Stream to all University computers shortly after May 12, when Google Drive Client is shutting down.

Classroom Tech Updates

We know how important it is for your success to have the best technology available to use in the classroom. To that end, we’re planning new software, hardware and multimedia upgrades that will improve classroom experiences including:

  • Windows 10 upgrades to all classrooms and computer labs
  • Replacing almost 300 computers on campus (¼ of Adelphi’s lab and classroom computers)
  • Upgrading over 15 classrooms with new technology systems in Blodgett Hall, Social Work Building, Levermore Hall, Earle Hall, and Science Building
