Our hearts go out to the victims and everyone affected by the tragedy, especially those Adelphi students, faculty and staff whose lives have been touched by it.

Dear members of the Adelphi community,

We are devastated by the horrific attack at Pulse in Orlando, Florida. Our hearts go out to the victims and everyone affected by the tragedy, especially those Adelphi students, faculty and staff whose lives have been touched by it.

We strongly support our LGBTQ community and have given approval to the student leaders of Adelphi’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) to create a memorial beneath the LGBTQ flag at the northeastern corner of the Hagedorn Hall of Enterprise. Everyone in the Adelphi community is welcome to contribute to it.

GSA and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) and Allies Committee are also planning to host an event addressing this horrendous crime early in the fall semester.

For Adelphi students seeking confidential mental health support, professional counselors are available in person at the Garden City campus in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, Room 310, and by phone and email at 516.877.3646 or scc@adelphi.edu.

Confidential employee services are available through the Center for Psychological Services at 516.877.4820. Additional information about crisis hotlines is available on our website.

Our Division of Student Affairs will provide referrals and meeting times for Adelphi-based LGBTQ and other groups as they become available. Please reach out to divisionofstudentaffairs@adelphi.edu to share information about vigils or meetings.

We will not let hate triumph, and we hope you join us in support of the LGBTQ community.

All the best,
