Revisiting Victoria Roberts, an MSW graduate of Adelphi. She's been sober for 20 years, and recently was selected as coordinator of Nassau County Re-Entry Task Force Program.
Adelphi’s alumni magazine ran a feature called “Addicted: A Daunting Struggle” in 2014, one that included the story of Victoria Roberts, a graduate student who received her M.S.W. later that year. Roberts knew first-hand how challenging it is to overcome addiction. It wasn’t her stint in jail or a period of homelessness that finally pushed her to come clean. It was when her son was arrested that she realized it was up to her to prevent another generation in her family from going astray.
All that was before her time at Adelphi. Today, she’s been sober for 20 years, and just recently, she was selected by the Department of Criminal Justice to be the coordinator of the Nassau County Re-Entry Task Force Program, where she’ll be working to provide needed services to people returning from state prison. And she was back on campus this spring to share her work experience in the annual Spotlight on Careers in Social Work event.
